So today was the first truly difficult in regards to tracking my calories. The group I usually eat with went to a Chinese food buffet for lunch, I went along figuring I could choose what I ate, and make reasonable decisions on what to intake, but it proved alittle more difficult than that.
First, I remember why I stopped eating at Buffet style places when I stopped being a poor high school/college kid – the food sucks. Second, having no real knowledge of Chinese cooking, I found it really difficult to estimate the calories involved. I’ve no clue what goes into certain sauces or how such and such meat is prepared. I mean, it does me no good to choose chicken that look relatively healthy if it’s been soaked in butter, but how would I know? Even the presentation of small slices and bites of mixed items (like a beef and broccoli mix) made it harder to judge just how much of one or the other I was really getting.
If one of my weigh in spikes in the next day or two, at least I’ll have an idea as to why. I think what I ended up eating was fairly safe, but I’m estimating the meal as a large one (1,400 calories) just to be cautious.
