I spent alittle time over the weekend looking up different cardio routines to try and give myself alittle more focus in the gym. After reading that Tyler’s gotten himself to a 1/1 ratio of briskly walking to running, having started at 4/1, I realized I don’t even really know what I’m even capable of, so I don’t really know where to improve.
So today, I walked into the gym with a plan to find out exactly where my limits currently are. I set a goal of 3/2 briskly walking at 3.6 miles per hour to jogging/running at 5 miles and hour, knowing I wasn’t gonna be able to actually pull it off, but figuring I could get pretty close.
Warmed up on the stationary bike for a few minutes, and then moved to the treadmill; amazingly enough, I managed to do 3/2 for the full 30 minutes! Of course, at the end, my chest felt like a blast furnace and my knee was VERY unhappy with me, but it was really worth it. Not only was I capable of more than I expected, but now I have a benchmark to use for the future.
– Cardio –
- Stationary Bike – 10 Minutes
- Treadmill – 30 Minutes
Hi, first visit to your post. It sounds like you worked out really hard. My trainer tells me that when people aren’t getting the results they want, it is probably due to the fact that they aren’t working intensely enough. From the sounds of it, you were working really hard. I’ll bet you felt great after!
After I was capable of breathing again, yeah, I felt awesome. It’s the first time I think I’ve really been happy with the effort I’ve put in at the gym.
