- Lemonade (64 oz): ~585
End of day two and it’s more of the same. Mentally and physically I feel even. Alittle more fatigued than usual, but nothing extraordinarily bad.
Again, I find myself impressed with the lemonade mixture this diet uses. Initially I was surprised at how many calories it actually contains. While it certainly is skirting with starvation, 600-1,200 calories (depending on the recipe you use) is not a fast by any means. The next thing that surprised me was how well it satiates your cravings.
As far as I can tell, it works by being so sugar rich (from the lemons and maple syrup) that it keeps you from feeling terrible by preventing your blood sugar from dropping to the point where you get headaches or feel fatigued. In fact, it’s got so much sugar, that it could end up being counter productive if not limited in some way, as you’d just end up drinking so much of it you’d be taking in too many calories for it to be effective. That’s what I think the cayenne pepper is for. It’s hot enough that it prevents you from being able to drink more than a couple of swigs of the stuff at any one time.
So as a gimmick, it’s very cleverly designed. Of course, if you’re into alternative health stuff, all of the ingredients serve some other cleansing purpose, but I honestly don’t think I’m sold on any of that, even in the midst of doing it.
