My Knees Hurt
Mar 25th, 2010 by Paul

Not a bad day; I was aiming for 100 stories in 15 minutes, and I almost made it. I find it odd that the pain in my knees after the stair machine is different then the pain in my knees after the treadmill. I would have assumed the treadmill was waaaay harsher on the joints.

I still cannot beat this lagging congestion in my chest. It’s been over a month. Sounds like I’ve got a doctors appointment in my near future.

Slow Start Back
Dec 8th, 2009 by Paul

My first day back in the gym and I still had alot of congestion in my chest from being sick. I found it really hard to breathe and ended up calling it off after only 15 minutes.

I made those 15 minutes count though, I set a new personal best for 1 mile at 12:47. Granted I think that was still a D in my highschool gym class, but it’s still showing progress, so I’m happy.

+5

Was able to add 5 minutes to my previous routine without much problem. In fact, I felt like I could have possibly added 10 (it would have been close), but time constraints meant I had to leave before I could find out.

Trying To Keep Up With Mr. Weeks
Nov 16th, 2009 by Paul

I spent alittle time over the weekend looking up different cardio routines to try and give myself alittle more focus in the gym. After reading that Tyler’s gotten himself to a 1/1 ratio of briskly walking to running, having started at 4/1, I realized I don’t even really know what I’m even capable of, so I don’t really know where to improve.

So today, I walked into the gym with a plan to find out exactly where my limits currently are. I set a goal of 3/2 briskly walking at 3.6 miles per hour to jogging/running at 5 miles and hour, knowing I wasn’t gonna be able to actually pull it off, but figuring I could get pretty close.

Warmed up on the stationary bike for a few minutes, and then moved to the treadmill; amazingly enough, I managed to do 3/2 for the full 30 minutes! Of course, at the end, my chest felt like a blast furnace and my knee was VERY unhappy with me, but it was really worth it. Not only was I capable of more than I expected, but now I have a benchmark to use for the future.

The Importance Of Support
Nov 10th, 2009 by Paul

I brought my gym bag to work today, but for the life of me could not find my badge (which is necessary to get into the gym). I resigned myself to having to skip my workout today, and idly mentioned it to my buddy Russ. The conversation went something like this:

Me – “I was planning to hit the gym again today, but…”
Russ – “But!?”
Me – “Yeah, but…”
Russ – “BUT!?”
Me – “Well, I can’t find my badge to get in.”
Russ – “So I’ll wait till you’re off and let you in”

It never even really occurred to me to ask anyone to wait around for me (I get off later than most the people in our office). I wouldn’t have gone to the gym today, and I wouldn’t have felt bad about it as it wasn’t due to lack of desire, just unfortunate circumstances. Instead, I got 30+ minutes of cardio in, with just alittle help from my friends.

  • Stationary Bike – 6 Minutes

My knee really didn’t respond to a second day of exertion in a row, and I had to call it quits early into my biking. I’ll take a day off and look into a knee brace, but I’m definitely in this one for the long haul now.

How Many Steps Does It Take To Reach Cloud Nine?

So I finally got into the gym after being hyped to get in there last week. About 40 minutes into the treadmill my knee started disagreeing with me, so I moved over to the bike because I was determined to do an hour of cardio at any cost.

Now, can I convince myself to do this again tomorrow?

Bummer
Nov 4th, 2009 by Paul

I was so hyped to go to the gym today – I go downstairs after work, ready to hit the stationary bike like it’s nobody’s business, and the damn thing is closed because the tenants in one of the offices downstairs is having new furniture delivered. What a letdown.

So I ended up coming home, lifting weights a bit, and doing 100 jumping jacks. Its certainly not the kind of workout I need to be putting in, but it’s better than coming home bummed out about missing the gym and doing nothing. Hopefully I’ll be able to hit it up tomorrow.
