Black Cherry Sweetness
November 19th, 2009 by Paul

I walked into Italia Deli this afternoon and was instantly struck by an incredible craving for Dr. Brown’s Black Cherry soda. Back before I was watching what I eat, I would routinely drink two of them along with a sandwich for lunch, and even though I hadn’t had one in months upon months, I was seriously could not believe how much I wanted one at that moment. So I got one.

It tasted NOTHING like I remember it. Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh, I guess it tasted something like I remember it if you took what I remembered, super concentrated, reduced, and then super concentrated it again! It was so sweet and sticky tasting I couldn’t even believe it. I drank the whole can, but in tiny little sips along with my sandwich. It certainly wasn’t bad, but how I ever used to guzzle that stuff like water is absolutely beyond me.

I guess my tastes really are changing, and that’s a good thing.

Dr. Brown’s diet versions of their sodas are actually quite good! Give ‘em a try next time.

I had the exact same experience with a caramel frappachino from Starbucks. Bittersweet, no?

Thats a great sign!! I think its sad sometimes, like any evolving relationship, to let go of what your prior relationship to that particular thing was… like with me and sugar, its almost like I want to want sweets because they are yummy in my mind but in reality I dont want them like I used to and when I have them they are usually soooo sweet, I dont enjoy em anyway. Its a mental thing, an emotional attachment thats harder to let go of than the actual thing, I think. But its a good, good thing
